Camden Hills State Park

With miles of hiking trails that extend into Coastal Mountal Land Trust preserves, hiking, and rock climbing in this area are great. You can see many islands in Penobscot Bay, and the town of Camden looks like something from a historical novel, with its steeples and tall ships in the harbor. The popular Mt. Battie trailhead is at the end of Megunticook Street, behind the Windward House Bed and Breakfast. On a clear day, visitors can see Cadillac Mountain at Acadia National Park. Mt. Megunticook, the highest of the Camden Hills - and highest peak on the mainland - is a moderate climb by foot trail.

Estimated Time to Play Holes: 4 1/2 hours, Earliest Tee-Off 7a.m. Season Mid-April through mid-November Samoset Course Highlights Pebble Beach of the East , and characteristic of what Maine lovers love best about Maine, the rocky coastline, and nearby islands in picturesque harbors plied by Schooners and lobsterman, are the backdrop for this well regarding Course. Samoset consistently ranks near the top of Golf Digests Most Beautiful and Best Resort Course lists. Designed by Bob Elder in the late 70s and remodeled in the 80s by Geoffrey Cornish and most recently by Ogunquit based Brad Booth. The Booth alterations were to the signature 4th hole (arguably one of the prettiest anywhere) and 5th to convert it from an unassuming par-4 to near perfect par-3. The redesigned and well-bunkered green of the fourth now backs up to a newly built seawall and the mile-long Rockland Breakwater and lighthouse beyond. You can make par depending on your state of mind, if you either concentrate on your game and not the view or concentrate on the view and let the golf take care of itself! The 180-yard fifth plays slightly uphill to a large diagonally oriented green guarded front right by a formidable cluster of bunkers. Numbers 11, 12, and 13 offer an interesting par 3-5-3 sequence that includes water, trees and more water. All of which lead up to the 435 yard dogleg-left par 4 sixteenth, with its long narrow green and deserving of its number one handicap ranking. Estimated Time to Play Holes: 4 hours, Earliest Tee-Off 7 a.m. Season Mid-April through October Goose River Course Highlights Maine Countryside, Camden Hills & Meandering River The Goose River Golf course is situated on a wooded area surrounded by farms upon gently sloping hills between the Camden Hills and Beech Hill. Just a two minute drive from the Camden Windward House Bed and Breakfast. The view of Camden Hills from the fourteenth hole makes the climb well worth it. A nine-hole course located near the famous seaside town of Camden, the hilly terrain creates some elevated tees, uphill fairways and blind approaches. Not many bunkers, but the Goose River makes an appearance now and again on several holes. The 581 yard first hole starts you swinging. A mis-hit drive requires a well hit second to carry the water that cuts the fairway in two. The course uses different tees for the incoming nine to add variety to some holes. To that end, the 495 yard par 5 fifth hole shortens to a par 4 as the fourteenth coming in. Both play steeply uphill to an elevated green, making either hole play much longer than its yardage. Goose River has a nice little clubhouse overlooking the course, and last year they started serving a lunch menu in addition to snacks and cocktails.
